Královo Pole station awaits new era in travel, its reconstruction is about to begin

The main priority of the Government of the Czech Republic is to improve the state of transport infrastructure. “Investments in the modernisation and development of railway and other transport systems are important not only for the development of the Czech economy. They are also a means of encouraging citizens to use public transport even more. Moreover, as a Brno resident, I am pleased that the modernisation of railway stations is not bypassing the South Moravian metropolis,” said Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

One of the main elements of the modernisation process is the construction of a new, two-storey station building, which will offer modern design and functionality. The glass building will have ticket offices, retail spaces and lavatories on the ground floor. In the middle of the hall, there will be escalators leading to an elevated area with benches for passengers and other commercial space. The existing building will give way to the new one already in July next year. During its construction, a temporary waiting room with a capacity of 250 people at Platform 1 will provide facilities for passengers.

“Brno-Královo Pole station is not only a railway junction, but also a key point of urban and suburban services. It provides a connection to the Vysočina (Highlands) and serves as a gateway to the regional metropolis for the still developing municipalities of the Tišnov region. This station will become one of the modern stations meeting the current requirements for comfortable travel,” emphasised Minister of Transport Martin Kupka.

The track facility throughout the station will be rebuilt. The capacity for parking sets of long-distance trains will increase, and selected tracks will be extended for the needs of freight service. At the same time, new platforms with modern roofing will be constructed. The existing underpass will be extended and will lead across the entire station to Myslínova Street. Barrier-free access to trains will be ensured by lifts, a new information and orientation system will facilitate travelling not only in the station but also at the adjacent stops Brno-Lesná, Brno-Řečkovice and Česká.

“The works will be carried out not only in the station itself, but also on the first track from Brno-Maloměřice to Kuřim. In addition, we are closely coordinating the reconstruction with the modernisation of the station Vlkov and the section to Křižanov, as well as with the construction works of the city and the region directly in Brno,” added Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic.

New signalling system and renewal of bridges, culverts and road overpass will provide a completely new standard in safety and fluidity of railway traffic. Trains will be able to pass through the station at a speed of 120 km/h.

The traffic restriction is planned from March next year to November 2025 and will only be partial. It will result in reduced line capacity, especially in regional service, by extending the interval from today's 15 to 30 minutes.

The total cost of the construction amounts to CZK 2.9 billion. The contractors of the works will be companies OHLA ŽS, Subterra, FIRESTA-Fišer and TRAMO RAIL.

The project Reconstruction of the station Brno-Královo Pole is proposed for co-funding by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund under the Programme Transport 2021–2027. National funding is provided by the Státní fond dopravní infrastruktury (State Fund for Transport Infrastructure).
