New labels at level crossings will enhance safety and help in better identification of the location

Správa železnic is starting to use new reflective labels with crossing numbers that are more visible. Within the pilot project, more than two dozen crossings in the Central Bohemia, Pilsen and Karlovy Vary Regions will be equipped with them. The aim is to improve the identification of level crossings and make it easier for drivers to navigate in crisis situations. It is a concrete contribution to the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD), which regularly falls at the beginning of June.

Identification labels with the level crossing number shall be affixed to the back of signal lights or warning crosses. Správa železnic decided to give these markings newly better highlight. As part of the pilot project, new stickers will be used on 26 level crossings in three regions, which are more visible thanks to the reflective surface, even during night hours. The graphic design studio contributed to their final form.

The markings serve, among other things, to quick identification of the place, for example, in cases when a car is stranded at the crossing and the driver needs to report the place of the incident to the emergency line. That is why the number marking of the crossing will be complemented by a green sticker with a pictogram of a telephone and the 112 number (SOS 112).

By the end of the year, Správa železnic plans to renew the stickers on all level crossings, 22,000 reflective labels should be produced.
